In this pre recorded course, co-founders of VO Workshop NYC: Sara Kapner, Emilea Wilson and Mike Cefalo bring their 20+ years of experience to walk you through the basics of how to set up your home studio, audition technique, script analysis, character building and next steps as you start your career in voiceover.

The voiceover industry can be intimidating, and you might not know where to start. There are so many different approaches out there. Our focus is from the actor’s approach. In this course, we'll break everything down into five comprehensible video segments.
Throughout the ~3 hours of video lessons, you'll learn voiceover from the ground up.
We'll start with home studio basics and learn how to set up your very own recording booth using the principles of isolation and absorption. If you want to get into voiceover nowadays, a good quality home studio is mandatory, but don’t worry- this doesn’t have to break the bank! Next will be Intro to Commercial, a sector of voiceover with infinite possibilities. After that, we will cover Intro to Animation and learn what it’s like to create your very own dynamic and compelling animation audition. Next is Intro to Audiobook, you'll learn the step by step process of audiobook basics.
Then, it's Self Submission! We’ll teach you how to get your voice out there and start booking. By the end of this course, you will have a working knowledge of the industry from the actor’s perspective and will be ready to venture into voiceover!
Lesson 1:
Home Studio 101
After a short introduction from your instructors (us, hi!), we’ll go into types of equipment, setting up your space, the principles of isolation and absorption, equipment recommendations and more. You’ll also gain access to our special discount with sweetwater, a fantastic resource as you get started in your VO journey.
Lesson 2:
Intro to commercial
This lesson is all about the conversational read. Have you ever watched a commercial and felt like you were being screamed at? Well, that’s what we DON’T want to do! In this section, we’ll teach you how to access your approachable, authentic and down to earth sound while learning the in’s and out’s of the commercial audition.
Lesson 3:
Intro to Animation
You will learn the 5 step process of compiling a dynamite animation audition. We’ll take a look at a number of scenes and, using your acting skills, you’ll learn how to build a compelling and moving audition filled with range and dynamics.

Lesson 4:
Intro to Audiobook
This lesson teaches you how to get your voice into the world of audiobook recording with a step by step guide from preparation to record. It includes how to create great samples, navigating auditioning platforms and tips on using the text to build your characters.
Lesson 5:
self submission 101
We will be learning all about how to start working in voiceover in this final section. We’ll touch on how to submit yourself on various online platforms as well as explore next step strategies for your voiceover career.
